A multinational firm in the steel sector has entrusted IDOM with the implementation of the Siemens MES system (SIMATIC IT) in one of its plants. The system has been implemented in the press blanking line with total connectivity with the press signals using OPC DA technology.

Through the development of a Master Plan, the project has achieved the following:

Determine whether SIMATIC IT is the correct technology for the implementation of the MES system
Evaluate the benefits an MES system provides to the group
Define the type of system architecture to use
Determine what functionalities SAP and MES should play, as well as the relationship between both systems
Evaluate the difficulty of the SAP-MES interaction
Evaluate and estimate the required investment and the time necessary for the implementation of the MES system
Evaluate what possible risks would imply on the implementation of an MES system globally and what organizational requirements are necessary
