San Mamés, Best Stadium 2017
The San Mamés Stadium has just received another award, reaffirming it as a stadium of reference, internationally. This time the award has come from the World Football Summit, a football industry congress. The San Mamés Stadium has been named Venue of the Year, best stadium award 2017, followed by Da Luz (Benficia, Lisbon) and Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Falcons).The presentation took place on October 16 at the Goya Theatre in Madrid.
Gustavo Silikovich, the General Manager of River Plate, Argentina, was also named the Industry Awards Best Executive of the Year. Silikovich, who is interested in undertaking a project similar to San Mames, at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, took time out from his visit to Spain to visit Bilbao and see the Stadium firsthand.
