Granada, a Smart and Accessible City

Working towards sustainable and inclusive tourism

El Albaicín is a historic neighbourhood of the Spanish city of Granada that still retains its medieval urban layout. In 1994, it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

The City of Granada is interested in promoting intelligent and sustainable tourism, which contributes to the conservation of the heritage and cultural promotion of the region. For this purpose, the city has launched the Granada Human Smart City project which, among other things, aims to facilitate tourist access to, and improve mobility within, the Albaicín neighbourhood.

Two of the actions being undertaken to achieve these objectives are the creation of a website and the development of a mobile application, called Granada Accesible (now available in Google Play and the APP Store). This app will provide the most optimal route to visit the location depending on the User Mobility Profile. Both applications have been developed by IDOM.

The project has been funded by the Government of Spain under the National Smart Cities Plan and was presented, with great success, during the last Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
