Innovation in Urban Transport, under discussion in Medellin

The best way for transport authorities to keep up with the technological revolution is to become innovative entities themselves. That said, is there a proven model to guide organizations in achieving this objective?
The answer is yes, the Innovative Organization Model. This is a model which IDOM has extensive knowledge of, both its theoretical foundations and its practical application. Among others, IDOM has been helping the Metro of Medellin in the process of reinforcing itself as an Innovative Organization.
In the words of Sandra Sinde, Manager of Innovative Public Procurement and Open Innovation in IDOM, “It is imperative that the managing companies and operators of urban transport systems develop a new vision based on innovation and the collaborative work of the different actors involved, in order to advance in the building of an Innovative Organization Model”. Sandra represented IDOM at the XX Latin American Congress on Public and Urban Transportation – Clatpu 2018, which took place in Medellin, Colombia at the end of July.

What is the Innovative Organization Model?
The Innovative Organization Model, designed by IDOM, is an approach involving 5 elements, the factors that bring about organizational change: Innovative Culture, Management of Innovation and instruments such as Strategic Intelligence, Open Innovation, Public Procurement of Innovation and Spaces to Innovate.
This is an indispensable tool that allows entities to become true agents of change and generate capacities to face the challenges of the technological and digital revolution, constructing projects to transform public transport services and mobility in the context of sustainable urban development. This has been the case with Metro Medellin, in its successful reinforcement process to become an Innovative Organization.
