1,792 MW Combined Cycle PS5 for Alba in Bahrein
First Fire - Milestone met successfully
The 1,792 MW power generation plant (Power Station 5 – PS5) will supply the energy demand of the new line smelter line (Smelter 6) that Aluminium Bahrein B.S.C. (ALBA) is implementing in its facilities in Bahrain. GAMA, which together with GE makes up the EPC contractor consortium of the PS5 project, contracted IDOM to provide professional engineering services.
The PS5 combined cycle power plant is composed of 3 GE-9HA gas turbines, leading-edge technology offering outstanding efficiency (54% to 60%) and at present the largest heavy-duty gas turbine in the world, 3 steam turbines, and 3 heat recovery boilers for steam generation (HRSGs).
First Fire of the PS5, one of the milestones in this kind of projects, took place successfully last October, 30. Personalities representing Alba, Gama, and GE attended the event and proceeded to the ignition, after visiting the facilities.
