Public procurement of Innovation: Driving force for R+D+I
TENERIFE SMART ISLAND 2019
At the end of March, the Cabildo (Town Council) of Tenerife held the third edition of Tenerife Smart Island, an event designed to encourage the development and use of new technologies. This year the congress focused on two central themes: smart buildings, looking at the innovative trends in the construction sector; and the Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI), the new tool with which the public administration supports the design of new products and services.
Sandra Sinde, Manager of the PPI & Open Innovation Division at IDOM, gave the opening talk of the event with a presentation on the Smart Island and PPI: Successful pairing, where she highlighted the need for change in public administrations to an ever more Smart environment, and how PPI is the leading tool to allow a change in the relationship with the innovation ecosystem (see presentation and interview).
The event was also attended by Teresa Riesgo Alcaide, General Director of Research, Development and Innovation of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities; Philippe Le Quement, Policy Officer, DG Grow of the European Commission; and Rafael Rebolo, Director of the Astrophysical Institute of the Canary Islands and a recent winner of the National Research Award.
