Harnessing the energy of the Mondego river. Girabolhos and Bogueira hydroelectric power plants – 385 MW
Portugal
Reversible hydroelectric exploitation by means of two reservoirs to be constructed in the Mondego river in the North of Portugal: Girabolhos (a 93.5 m high vault) and the equalizing reservoir of Bogueira (jetty with a concrete screen of 66.5 m). The facility has a maximum rated head of 73 m and a design flow of 505 m³/s.
Reversible hydroelectric exploitation in Portugal
The main reversible installation (turbine pump) at the foot of the dam will have 335 MW of total installed power (2 Francis turbines).
A conventional installation uses the jump from the equalizing reservoir, with 29.50 MW of total power (2 Francis turbines).
