BIM – Methodology implementation in Andes Norte projects – New Mine Level
Chile
The El Teniente Division of CODELCO is one of the five largest copper operations in the world. The New Mine Level (Nuevo Nivel Mina – NNM) stands out as one of CODELCO’s most ambitious projects, involving the expansion of the El Teniente mine to a deeper sector (level 1,880) to ensure the operational continuity of the Division.
The project currently under development, plans to start the extraction work in 2023, and also contemplates an expansion of the production capacity of the Colón processing plant, to face a decrease in mineral grades and reach up to 160,000 average tons of daily treatment. In total, the construction of 18 km of tunnels is planned.
CODELCO, the world’s leading producer of copper from the mine, as part of its development strategy, established the use of the BIM methodology in all its projects as of 2020. In this context, it has contracted IDOM, as an engineering and specialist consultant in BIM, assistance for the implementation of said methodology and the development of the corresponding procedures and workflows during the construction and commissioning stage of various NNM projects. This work will also serve CODELCO as a pilot test of BIM implementation in future projects at the corporate level.
The scope of the services provided by IDOM includes:
- Preparation of the BIM Execution Plan for the tender.
- Review of 3D models and detection of interferences.
- Audit of the model for its adaptation to the 4D work schedule.
- Audit of the model for its adaptation to 5D cost and Material Take Off management.
- BIM Tool induction workshops.
