Critical Taxiways, Dublin Airport

Dublin Airport has grown considerably over the last 20 years, which has meant that any infrastructure improvement plans have been implemented with the airport in operation.

In the Critical Taxiways project, a key task is defining the project’s phasing and the works execution programme, as the airport must remain operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year during the works on site. In addition to designing, supporting the tender, supervising the works and administering the construction contract for these new taxiways that will bring efficiency, flexibility and safety to the airport.

One of the biggest challenges, in addition to developing the works in a living environment, has been to involve airport stakeholders (Airside Operations and Safety, Stand Planning, Air Traffic Control).

The design has been carried out in a BIM environment which has allowed collaborative working, scheduling of works and accurate cost estimates. All design works have been undertaken to ensure compliance with EASA, ICAO, FAA, ACI, DIO, NRA, Irish, British and European Regulations and Standards, as well as Dublin Airport Policies, Metrics and Operational requirements.

At the moment, IDOM is supporting daa with Contract Administration procedures during Construction, preparing all the necessary drawings and documents, assessing the contractor’s proposals and developing all the required tasks until the handover and commissioning phase.
