THE R&D&I MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF THE PORT OF ALGECIRAS
The competitiveness of organizations depends on always being able to innovate and improve. For this reason, it is essential to examine the way in which innovation processes are managed within organizations, as just having them does not produce value.
Aware of all of the above, for several years now, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), together with IDOM, has been working on innovation as a process to integrate it into all the operations of the organization.
This transformation process has allowed the APBA and, by extension, the Bahía de Algeciras Port (PBA), to generate in an agile and efficient way, new mechanisms of competition in an increasingly pressured maritime-port sector, in which the infrastructure, equipment and port capacity are perceived as goods.
As a result, the APBA has become the first Spanish port authority to obtain the R&D&i Management System certificate, which certifies compliance with the requirements of the UNE 166002: 2014 Standard for research activities, development and innovation in the field of port logistics.
Due to its relevance, the delivery of the certificate was widely reported in different media:

What we have done!
To make this a reality, since the beginning of 2017, IDOM has been coordinating the Technical Office for the Coordination of Innovation Activities, accompanying APBA in achieving the following objectives:
1) Strengthen the innovation process; 2) raise awareness and motivate the entire organization to achieve a culture orientated towards innovation and continuous improvement; 3) quick transformation of new ideas to products and services to be shared between the users and clients of PBA; 4) consolidate an open innovation ecosystem with a focus on start-ups and universities; and, finally, 5) position the PBA among the most innovative and competitive ports in the international arena.
Our experience in accompanying companies in their transition to becoming innovative organizations has allowed the APBA to systematize innovation in the organization and integrate it as a key business process.
