Waste to Materials & Advanced Fuel, a pioneering project in Europe on circular economy

Confidential

How to manage End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs) is an important environmental problem that the different public administrations have been regulating following directives such as RD 1619/2005 or the modification with RD 731/2020 to adapt to EU Directive 2018/851 on Waste.

This project will mark a before and after in the management of this waste.

IDOM has extensive experience developing innovative projects that promote circular economy models. This has earned the Client’s (confidential) trust to develop this project, a pioneer in the world on a commercial scale.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the new plant will process approximately 9% of the End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs) generated in Spain.

This is a technologically innovative project, as the plant is designed to be energy self-sufficient, that is, operating with the energy generated in the process, eliminating the need for additional external input from other energies or materials.

This multidisciplinary project involves the design, construction management, and start-up of a “Waste to Materials and Fuel” plant using state-of-the-art depolymerization technology, encompassed within the framework of the strictest environmental and quality standards (recovery code R3), with a treatment capacity of approximately 27,000 t/year of End-of-Life Tyres. The result of this treatment are secondary raw materials for industry: recover carbon black, advanced fuel, and high-alloy steel.

Construction work began in August 2020 and the plant is expected to be in operation before the end of 2021.

IDOM, having participated in this project since its inception, is helping the Client to optimize their investment by analyzing the best implementation options, in addition to developing the complete engineering, procurement management, construction management, and commissioning (full EPCM service).
