Radioactive waste procesing plant upgrade at Kozloduy NPP
Bulgary
The D-Project 48-1 – Technical Design and Update of SAR for Modernization of SD “RAW-Kozloduy” (Specialized Division Radioactive Waste – Kozloduy) to receive and process decommissioning RAW (Radioactive Waste) is funded by KIDSF (Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund) and administrated by EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development).
The overall objective of the project is to provide the Technical Design (TD) for increasing safety and RAW processing capacity in order to ensure the capability of SD-RAW to manage the RAW generated during the decommissioning of units 1 to 4 and operation of units 5 and 6 of KNPP. Besides facility technical upgrading, support to licensing will be provided, safety Analysis Report (SAR) will be updated. In addition, technical surveillance during construction and commissioning phases according to the applicable regulations will be provided.
Specifically, the processing capacity of RAW Processing Plant (RAWPP) for solid and liquid RAW manage will be increased; the traceability and circulation system will be also improved. Ancillary systems of the facility like power supply, air compressed, HVAC, lighting, I&C, drainage, communication, laboratory, laundry, fire safety. etc. will be technically adopted for the new processing capacity. Technical specifications for new equipment (sorting table, conveyors, radiation characterization stages, compactor, super compactor, transport trolleys, transport trucks, radiation chambers, radiation monitors, cleaning machines, electric lifts, handling cranes, etc.) are elaborated.
