The ‘peanuts’ of Expo 2008 will become homes
IDOM is part of the winning joint venture in the Ideas Competition
The joint venture formed by IDOM and Ingennus Urban Consulting will now be in charge of converting what are known as ‘peanuts’ of the Zaragoza Expo (the Ebro buildings, which hosted the pavilions of the participating countries at the 2008 Expo), currently in disuse, into 275 homes for young people in Zaragoza. The team has been the winner of the Ideas Competition, which had a total of 17 proposals from some well-respected studios.
The proposal “has been highly valued for its quality, functionality, aesthetics and other qualities such as energy efficiency or the number of homes”, explained Marta Gastón, the Minister of Economy, Planning and Employment and president of the public company Expo Zaragoza Empresarial, on Wednesday, June 7, the day the jury’s decision was announced.
Our proposal prevailed over those presented by Estudio Lamela SLP and by the joint ventures formed by Mangado y Asociados with Clúa Longas Arquitectos and by Bernabad Arquitectura e Ingeniería with Cerouno Arquitectos, which had passed, together with IDOM, to the second phase of the Ideas Competition.
