Thermo mechanical design of Collective Thomson Scattering components for ITER
France
Collective Thomson Scattering (CTS) is a diagnostic system whose primary function is to diagnose the fast alpha particle population resulting from deuterium-tritium fusion reactions.
In the CTS diagnostic system, a high power probe beam (1 MW mm-wave at 60 GHz) is scattered by particles in the plasma. The spectrum of the scattered radiation (in the order of mW) provides information about such particles in the plasma.
F4E co-ordinated the design efforts of several suppliers, with IDOM designing the cooling lines for the system and assessing the mechanical performance under the design loads. The design was evaluated against ITER SDC-IC criteria.
