Successful commissioning of the new Vacuum Degasser in Aceros Arequipa
A great milestone achieved by IDOM, SMS, and of course CAASA
The commissioning of the new Vacuum Degasser (VD) at the New Steel Mill of Corporación Aceros Arequipa (CAASA) in Pisco (Peru) has been successfully completed during the beginning of the second half of 2022.
The installation of the new state-of-the-art VD allows special steels to be produced with high added value. This new process is one of the projects undertaken by CAASA for the modernization and improvement of the New 1.25 million t/year liquid Steel Mill in Pisco, which was commissioned at the end of the first half of 2021.
The challenge has been to not affect production or interrupt operations at the New Steel Mill, at any time, during the construction and commissioning of the VD. This has been a great achievement and there have been absolutely no incidents during the execution of the works.
CAASA has entrusted IDOM with the Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, and Construction Management services (EPCM) for the execution of this project – the conception phase through to commissioning – as well as the Balance of Plant (BoP) engineering. The multidisciplinary project team was made up of a group of professionals who were located permanently on-site and a second group working from our offices.
