Bilbao is gearing up for the UEFA Women’s Champions League final

A historic moment is coming to Bilbao, the capital of the historic territory of Bizkaia and the most populous city in the Basque Country. On May 25, the San Mamés stadium, home of the Athletic Club de Bilbao, will become the epicenter of women’s football. It will host the city’s first UEFA Women’s Champions League final and the first in the Basque Country to be played in front of an audience.

More than just a football match

This final is not just a match between two teams at the top of their game. It is a public celebration of the importance of women in football and sport. The Basque institutions firmly believe in the significance of this event, which goes beyond sports. We are in awe of the effort and dedication of the women who have fought for the recognition of women’s football in the Basque Country.

The Basque Country has a large and diverse network of women’s football clubs. For decades, pioneering women have worked tirelessly to develop this sport in the region. For the next generations of girls who dream of playing in iconic stadiums, this heralds a promising and hopeful future.

Beyond the title that is at stake, this date marks a significant milestone in the history of the women’s game. This event, which celebrates sporting excellence and the visibility of women in sport, will be watched by the global community.

For this exciting event, IDOM is providing technical assistance and support to Bilbao Ekintza. Essential to the success of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in Bilbao is the cooperation between IDOM and Bilbao Ekintza.
