Master plan and roadmap for the implementation of MES 4.0

Gonvarri, a leading multinational steel company with more than 45 plants worldwide, decided to modernize its operations and improve efficiency. To achieve this goal, they engaged IDOM to develop a master plan and implementation roadmap for the MES system.

The scope of the project included the preparation of a Master Plan, a Business Case and an Implementation Roadmap. OpCenter Ex Discrete was implemented in Spain as a global template, with a 5+ year plan to roll out to the rest of the factories. Integration with eWon devices via OPC-UA and with other industrial solutions using the MQTT protocol was also achieved.

The main results of this project included the creation of a global template for the digitization of plants in the stamping, cutting and slitting processes, as well as the integration of business processes in SAP with production processes in MES, including online quality. In addition, real-time monitoring and control of production execution was achieved through an interactive video wall.

This project enabled Gonvarri to establish a clear strategy for modernizing its operations, improving the efficiency and quality of its production processes, and ensuring effective integration between commercial and production processes for a smoother and more efficient operation.
