Croatia modernizes its road infrastructure with Free-Flow technology
Croatia is taking a significant step in modernizing its road infrastructure with the introduction of an electronic toll system based on Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) technology. This advanced system will span 211 toll points across 1,341 kilometers of highways, which currently handle over 89 million transactions annually. The new system, designed to benefit both local and international users, will enable seamless payments without requiring vehicles to stop at toll booths, streamlining traffic flow.
The implementation of this technology not only promises to improve the experience for drivers, but also to provide valuable real-time data for more effective traffic management towards route optimization, reducing congestion, especially in the peak tourist season, and will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by eliminating long queues at the tolls. With the simplification of the toll process, Croatia takes a step towards modernizing its road network, strengthening its competitiveness and sustainability in the transport sector.
IDOM will play a key role in this project by supporting Croatian Motorways, as leader of the team in charge of overseeing the design, implementation and operation support of the new system, which with its extensive experience in infrastructure and technology projects, will ensure that the implementation and transition to this new system is successful.
