EU public and cultural diplomacy in the Republic of Korea

The EU public and cultural diplomacy in the Republic of Korea (EU POP RoK) project of the Delegation of the European Union in Seoul aims to improve the understanding of its policies and functioning among various national actors, and to promote the EU’s core values in the country.

The EU POP RoK focuses on people-to-people (P2P) cooperation, with a strong emphasis on youth participation, collaboration with journalists and media, students and academics, think tanks and civil society organisations, cultural centres and other private and public sector actors. To achieve these objectives, we will use various tools, such as the organisation of high-impact events, the facilitation of knowledge exchanges and the generation of commitments and partnerships.

  • Organisation of at least 20 high-impact events, including the annual organisation of Model EU, accompanying visits of high-level leaders to the country, or the celebration of international days such as International Human Rights Day or Women’s Day.
  • Transforming the EU’s priorities in Korea (Democracy and Human Rights, Education, Science and Innovation, Market Economy, Green Transition and Digital Transition, and Peace and Security) into concrete and tangible actions.
  • Creation of a comprehensive Communication Plan to give visibility to the actions of the EU and its Member States in Korea.
  • Generation of long-term engagement strategies with a creative and modern vision, taking advantage of the wave of Korean influence in the West, and adapting the messages to a young audience.

IDOM will accompany the EU Delegation in Korea in the design of actions and communication strategies, organisation of events and management of the programme during the four years of the project.
