Chile. Santiago–Batuco Train
SUBURBAN RAIL MOBILITY AND CONNECTIVITY
With the objective of improving suburban mobility in the northern part of the metropolitan region of Santiago de Chile by offering a safe, fast and efficient rail transportation service, the State Railways Company (EFE) is developing the Tren Santiago-Batuco Project. This innovative project is in line with the desire of the Chilean authorities to foment rail travel in the country.
The Tren Santiago Batuco Project will complement the existing Rancagua Express Train, which serves the southern part of the capital, operating between Alameda and Nos (MetroTren Nos service). These services along with the Alameda Melipilla project (the south-west zone), which is currently at an advanced stage of design, will significantly improve rail connectivity in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago.
At present, 80% of the engineering design and 85% of the Environmental Impact Assessment have already been developed, and the operating model is under review. It may also be possible to extend the service to passengers, underpinning the important growth in real estate in the northern area of the capital Santiago.
IDOM is providing assessment to the project management team, managing the various contracts involved, and providing the necessary technical and management support to achieve the objectives of the project.
