Competitive intelligence for the internationalization of Basque companies
Basque Trade & Investment, Basque Agency for Internationalization, has recently published the observatories of international trade, raw materials, international, and aerospace, which reveal the trends affecting the internationalization of the Basque industry in these areas, and anticipate key aspects that will mark its development in 2025.
IDOM, through the Competitiveness and Innovation Consulting team, supports BTI’s Competitive Intelligence Unit in the identification and analysis of data and trends, and in the drafting and preparation of these observatories, which are available to the Basque business ecosystem through the following links:
- International Observatory: analyzes the global political-economic situation in the third quarter of 2024 and offers forecasts for the first half of 2025. It highlights the impact of Trump’s victory in the USA, tensions in the Middle East, and global economic growth forecasts of 2.5%. It also highlights the economic resilience of Europe, the slowdown in Asia-Pacific, and the increase in foreign direct investment in North Africa.
- Commodities Observatory: provides a detailed analysis of the main trends in the commodities markets during the last quarter of the year, including the evolution of the prices of industrial raw materials, oil and natural gas.
- International Trade Observatory: highlights the record figures for world trade, which reached $33 trillion in 2024, driven by growth in goods and services transactions; and analyzes the position of the Basque Country in global import and export flows. Looking ahead to 2025, it warns of a context with a rise in protectionist policies, tariff conflicts and growing geopolitical uncertainty, countered by a more resilient global trade, where transport prices are stabilizing and new trade agreements, such as the EU and Mercosur, are consolidating.
- Aerospace Sector Observatory: analyzes the recovery of the aviation sector after the pandemic. It highlights the growth in fixed-wing aircraft deliveries in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic figures. It also addresses the evolution of the MRO market and the development of sustainable aviation. In addition, he stresses the importance of the internationalization of the Basque aerospace industry and support in areas such as decarbonization and digitalization to improve competitiveness.
