Finalist in two architectural competitions: FAD & Aga Khan
THe extension project of the University of Bambey is recognized yet again
The expansion project of the Bambey University has just had some more good news. It has been selected as a finalist in both the FAD Awards, in the International category, and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
FAD Awards for Architecture
The jury of one of the most prestigious awards in Spain call it “a project which is respectful to the environment, using its context as a powerful tool to make the idea work. The way in which it incorporates contemporary architectural practices is intelligent and innovative and takes into account the needs of users and the maintenance of the building. A clever solution to make this architecture something that belongs to the place where it is located. Using elements of the location makes it an intelligent piece of architecture without applying sophisticated technologies. The project adapts well to the climate, as it offers natural ventilation and shade, elementary aspects for comfort in such a warm setting”.
Aga Khan Award for Architecture
The 20 projects selected for the 2019 Aga Khan Award for Architecture were announced on April 25 in Kazan (Russia). Among the finalists are also OMA and Snohetta. The Aga Khan Award for Architecture is one of the oldest and most important at the international level. All types of projects are selected, which in addition to representing architectural excellence, improve the quality of life in general.
Farrokh Derakhshani, Director of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, specifically mentioned the bioclimatic strategies implemented in the new lecture building of the Alioune Diop University. The FAD 2019 Awards will take place on June 19 at the Disseny Hub Barcelona. The Aga Khan award will be announced in September.
