IDOM is working to enhance connectivity between the European Union and Japan

On December 6, a key seminar was held in Tokyo to promote the Partnership Agreement on Sustainable Connectivity and Quality Infrastructure between the EU and Japan, organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Japan.

The meeting, entitled “From Policy to Action”, brought together the main stakeholders of the Agreement to explore how to cooperate on specific investment projects in the energy, digital and transport sectors in third countries, while ensuring maximum economic efficiency and respecting fiscal, environmental, social and transparency standards. The meeting was attended by representatives from the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, JICA and JBIC, among others.

This seminar is part of the follow-up actions set out in the EU-Japan Summit of May 2022 and addresses the efforts of the parties to encourage and promote reliable, secure, sustainable, comprehensive and comprehensive connectivity projects based on international standards.

As a result, participants identified a significant number of both existing and potential projects for EU-Japan cooperation in key geographies: the Indo-Pacific, Africa, the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, which will be further explored in the coming months.

On Tuesday December 6, the consortium led by IDOM assisted the EU Delegation to Japan in the organization of a seminar to promote the EU-Japan Partnership on Sustainable Connectivity and Quality Infrastructure, through specific initiatives and projects.

IDOM Consultancy leads the consortium that supports the Delegation of the European Union in Japan for the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the European Union and Japan (EU-Japan SPA), which encompasses up to forty areas of collaboration between the two territories.

Under the title “From policy to action”, this was the first time that all major actors from both sides (European Commission, EIB, EBRD, Member States, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, JICA, JBIC, etc.) met to discuss how to cooperate on tangible investment projects in the energy, digital and transport sectors in third countries, while respecting maximum economic efficiency, as well as fiscal, environmental, social and transparency rules.

The seminar, which aimed to pave the way for further progress in promoting reliable, secure, sustainable, comprehensive and comprehensive connectivity projects based on international standards, represents a core follow-up action in the wake of the EU-Japan Summit in May 2022. It saw participants identify a significant number of both existing and potential projects for EU-Japan cooperation in key geo-regions: Indo-Pacific, Africa, the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, which will be further explored in the coming months.
