Neurofuel, risk analysis, lessons learned and more
Last October, the city of Cordoba became the epicenter of debate and innovation in the field of nuclear energy, hosting the 50th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Nuclear Society (SNE). Among all the participating companies from the nuclear sector, we stand out for our large presence, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable development and technological innovation.
Our colleagues, experts in engineering and consulting, presented a series of papers that captured the attention of the attendees. In the Technical Session on Operation and Maintenance, Gabriel Moreno Rebollo from IDOM presented on “Limits to flexible operation derived from TLAFs during long-term operation”, highlighting the innovative solutions implemented to improve the efficiency and safety of the facilities.
In the Technical Session on Decommissioning and Waste Management, Marc Altés i Soler presented the paper on “Capture, segregation and revaluation of radioactive waste during pyrometallurgical reprocessing”, stressing the importance of efficient management of radioactive waste and again highlighted with his paper on “Operational decontamination of a neutron irradiation facility”, while Luis Felipe Durán addressed “The value of knowledge sharing in nuclear decommissioning: lessons learned from European Operators” and “Effectively managing knowledge in nuclear decommissioning”, emphasizing the importance of knowledge management in nuclear decommissioning.
Ibón Suárez Hernández, in the Fuel Technical Session, introduced “Neurofuel: use of artificial intelligence in criticality calculations in spent fuel”, showing how AI can revolutionize criticality calculations and improve safety in spent fuel management.
As part of the Technical Session on Advanced Reactors and Nuclear Fusion, Daniel Moya Alonso presented “A risk analysis for helium coolant system (HCS) from HCCP-TBS”, with Cristian Garrido as table coordinator, highlighting advances in the safety of helium cooling systems.
In addition, our colleague Jose Antonio Herrera, chaired one of the technical sessions on Decommissioning and waste management, while Xavier Jardí coordinated one of those related to Engineering, Design and Innovation.
In addition, IDOM had a prominent presence in the sponsorship activities, including the sponsors’ luncheon, where Óscar Larrosa and Xavi Jardí represented the company.
IDOM also actively participated in the Young Sessions, with César Hueso and Celia González as chair and table coordinator in the first session, and Oscar Larrosa and Luis Felipe Durán in the second, demonstrating its commitment to the training and development of new generations of professionals.
The meeting was also an opportunity to strengthen ties with other entities in the sector. IDOM took advantage of the event to establish new collaborations and explore business opportunities, demonstrating once again its leadership and capacity to adapt in a constantly evolving environment.
In summary, IDOM’s participation in the 50th annual meeting of the SNE in Córdoba not only stood out for its technical contributions and strategic vision, but also for its commitment to a more sustainable and secure energy future. The company continues to position itself as a benchmark in the sector, driving progress and innovation in nuclear energy.
