Order submitted for the commencement of the DART + WEST RAILWAY in Dublin
Last Friday, July 29th, Iarnród Éireann submitted the application for the commencement of the Railway Order for the DART+ West Railway to An Bord Pleanala. This date marks an important milestone in the project and is the result of working closely with great partners, our client Iarnród Éireann and our local subcontractor, ROD.
The objectives of DART+ West, is to provide an electrified, reliable and sustainable public transport system, increasing the frequency of rail service and thereby significantly increasing the rail capacity of the Maynooth and M3 Parkway lines, for which it has a budget of around 1 billion euros has been allotted.
Diesel trains will be replaced by high-capacity electrified DART trains and train frequency will be increased from 6 to 12 trains per hour in each direction. The line’s transport capacity will be increased from 5,000 passengers/hour to 13,200 passengers/hour. The project will involve the electrification of some 40 km of rail line from Dublin city center to the west of Maynooth, and up to the M3 Parkway station, including the upgrading to current standards of the entire rail infrastructure.
