Ultrafast Networks based on fiber optics

A Basque Project Awared with the “European Broadband Award 2019“

For more than 10 years, the Basque Government has proposed actions with the goal of increasing connectivity and Internet access for citizens and businesses. Through public-private collaboration, ultrafast new generation networks (based on fiber optics) have been implemented in the Basque Country, not just in cities, but also in rural settings, thereby promoting development and presence in the world digital.

Through concatenated and continuous actions designed by the IDOM team, plans have been developed for the extension of broadband, making it possible to have new generation networks in business estates and rural areas. This aspect has been highlighted by the European Commission, due to its socio-economic impact and boost for the development of the rural environment. Operators do not usually invest in these areas due to the low return on investment. This has been a key element for which this project has received the “2019 European Broadband Award” at the gala held in Brussels on December 2. The prize was collected by the Vice Minister of Technology, Innovation and Competitiveness of the Basque Government, Ms. Estibaliz Hernaez Laviña.

From IDOM, we would like to congratulate the Basque Government and express our appreciation for the opportunity to have been able to contribute our experience in Telecommunications during these years of continuous collaboration.
