Tren Maya sets off on the stretch designed by IDOM

Tren Maya (Maya Train) is one of the Mexican government’s most important rail infrastructure initiatives. The first section, developed by IDOM, connects Palenque in Chiapas, with Escárcega in Campeche. Stretching some 228 kilometres, Tren Maya is part of a larger project covering 3,000 kilometres that will connect the southeast of Mexico.

With the addition of 42 trains carrying up to 3 million passengers a year, Tren Maya will not only improve connectivity between major cities in the region, but also redistribute tourist flows and contribute to the development of less accessible areas. This approach aims to reduce road congestion and improve the quality of life in the south-eastern region.

This is a flagship project for IDOM, demonstrating our ability to manage large projects and deliver high quality engineering and design solutions. The first section of Tren Maya is an example of the impact of IDOM’s work in transforming Mexico’s infrastructure and sustainable development.
