Topping out Mercedes-Benz Vans Plant, North Charleston USA
Assembly of all buildings' metallic structure finished
Mercedes-Benz is constructing a new full production factory in North Charleston, SC (USA) where the Sprinter, Vito and Class V commercial vans will be manufactured in their entirety to meet the growing demand of the North American market. The construction has reached a significant milestone: the last steel beam of the paint shop structure was hoisted in place last week.
The project, which represents a global investment of around $500 million, will occupy 80 hectares and includes a body shop building, a paint shop building, the extension of the existing assembly facility, and associated utilities: the energy plant, supplies, storage for inflammable material and Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS).
Mercedes-Benz has appointed IDOM to provide the Technical Assistance for the Project: preparation of the bridging documents, assistance in the contracting process, design review and on-site monitoring of the works. In this phase, the main team of 4 IDOM professionals is permanently based on-site, with support when required from other teams in our offices.
