We took part in the ASCOM Compliance Day
On 21 November, we took part in the ASCOM Compliance Day, which was inaugurated by Manuel Marchen, President of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, who stressed the importance of consolidating the figure of the Chief Compliance Officer as an essential part of companies.
ASCOM gave cultural issues the importance they deserve with the launch of the new White Paper on the role of the Compliance Officer.
Throughout the day, there were some very interesting panel discussions. These included practical cases of harassment, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
The need for independence of compliance within companies was particularly emphasized. The importance currently being attached to preventing conflicts of interest was also highlighted, underlining the need for a specific procedure to deal with them.
Regarding the functioning of complaint channels, the need for adequate protection of the complainant was underscored, as well as the importance of maintaining confidentiality at all stages of a complaint process.
There is a clear trend to bring corporate governance into all areas, beyond criminal compliance to labor, tax, data protection, information security and AI.
Learning so much about current issues, enjoying great speakers and an exceptional atmosphere was a pleasure. We will do it again!
