Bearing test bench
Germany
The BEAT1.1 (Bearing Endurance and Acceptance Test) is a test bench for scale wind turbine bearings. Designed and supplied by IDOM to Fraunhofer IWES, it is fully operational in Hamburg.
The BEAT1.1 is based on an innovative design developed by IDOM for the BEAT6.1, a similar test bench for large bearings. The bench features a Stewart platform controlled by 6 hydraulic servo cylinders capable of exerting moments of 250kNm and forces of 1MN. The BEAT1.1 is capable of applying dynamic loads with a frequency of up to 2Hz, allowing accelerated life testing. The bench’s capabilities are complemented by an electric pitch system, based on a rack and pinion mechanism driven by an electric motor, which simulates the pitch movement of the wind turbine blade.
