Capacity building and coordination for trade integration in Vietnam
Vietnam
n order to achieve social and economic stability, developing countries like Vietnam need to integrate into the global economic and trade landscape.
To strengthen the capacity of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop trade strategy, economic integration and sustainable economic growth, IDOM developed a specific plan to implement World Trade Organization (WTO) commitments to better integrate Vietnam into the global economic and trade system.
IDOM has carried out the following activities under the project:
- Supporting the Ministry to more efficiently coordinate and implement WTO commitments.
- Improving the Ministry’s coordination with public and private institutions to effectively negotiate and coordinate regional trade agreements included in AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area).
- Strengthening the existing legal framework to make it coherent and enforceable.
- Strengthening the dialogue between the EU and Vietnam to improve economic competitiveness and facilitate trade relations.
- Capacity building for the public and private sectors to reduce the time and costs of exporting and importing goods.
- Development of a quantitative model to measure the impact of climate change on trade in goods and services.
As a result of this project, the MOIT has improved its capacity for strategic and commercial decision-making for the positioning of Vietnam in the global trade sphere. In addition, some bureaucratic processes have been eliminated, facilitating the entry and exit of goods and services and increasing the competitiveness and international presence of the Asian country at the global level.
