Definition & implementation of rollout model
Egypt | Turkey
A rollout in the context of a S/4HANA implementation refers to the process of deploying and extending the functionality of this ERP system to different locations, branches or business units within an organisation. This process is usually gradual and planned to ensure a smooth transition and minimise disruptions to operations.
Essential steps and strategies for S/4HANA rollout to local units
From the point of view of a S/4HANA implementation, a rollout involves several key steps, in addition to the implementation tasks themselves:
- Assessment and planning: First, the current situation of the organisational units that will receive the system is analysed, identifying specific needs and possible customisations.
- Documentation and validation: Next, the necessary documentation is compiled and validated, ensuring that local particularities are properly integrated.
- Configuration and testing: S/4HANA modules are then configured according to local requirements and thorough testing is performed to ensure that everything is working properly.
- Training and support: Finally, local staff are trained in the use of the system and ongoing support is provided to resolve any issues that arise during and after the rollout.
The main objective is to take advantage of the technology and knowledge already implemented at headquarters, adapting it to the specific needs of each unit.
S/4HANA rollout in Egypt and Turkey
With this objective in mind, the project planned rollout activities for the countries of Egypt and Turkey.
When planning the rollout in Egypt, it was particularly important to cover the inflation accounting functionalities, given the special relevance of inflation in the country. Finding the right strategy to cover this requirement was fundamental for the localisation of the solution in Egypt.
The specific functionalities that were implemented in the defined model were the following:
- Finance and Controlling with Material Ledger
- Purchasing
- Sales and Distribution
- Logistics and Warehousing
- Production
- Advanced Planning and Optimisation
- Datawarehouse and Analytics
- Planning and Consolidation
As it was a rollout, and the headquarters to be implemented were far from the head office, the communication and change management procedures were essential to achieve a high degree of implementation and use of S/4HANA.
And finally, the importance of the project management that allowed us to coordinate and plan the activities so that they did not interfere with the normal operation of the company and to manage the risks inherent in this type of project in an appropriate manner.
