Expanding the Geographic Information System of the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid – EMT

Spain

The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT) of Madrid is responsible for the provision of passenger transport services in the municipality of Madrid, the operation of car parks, the management of municipal tow trucks and the public bicycle service.

The objective of the project is the update of the Geographic Information System (GIS) of the EMT to provide new services with a geographic base to both internal users and the citizen.

Technological innovation at the service of citizens

EMT has a geographic information system for the definition and management of the geographical elements involved in the operation of the bus network and other urban mobility elements such as parking lots, electric recharging points or bicycle bases.

In the framework of the project, a set of solutions has been implemented that will allow EMT users to keep corporate geographic information up to date. New analytical and big data tools will allow these same users to analyze and display data sets from a geospatial perspective, including real-time and historical information on the location of the fleet of vehicles managed by EMT. The new tool for the management of diversions will allow EMT to visually report the changes that occur in the network of lines caused by events that affect its operation. This tool is based on the MyNavega application that together with the new multimodal route calculation engine complete the main tools aimed at citizens developed in the framework of this project.
