Implementation of a business management system

The ERP systems developed by SAP are leaders when it comes to managing a company’s business processes. They include all the areas that make up the supply chain (from sales to delivery, including the entire procurement and manufacturing process) as well as all the auxiliary processes such as financial management, human resources and plant maintenance.

In the case of Arteche, a complete implementation of the SAP ERP tool was carried out, covering the company’s main processes, including the following:

  • PP (Production Planning): This covers the entire manufacturing process according to the chosen strategy, from the orders generated by the MRP to the production notifications and the management of the means of production.
  • SD (Sales & Distribution): Includes all sales and distribution processes.
  • MM (Material Management): Covers all material management, inventory and procurement processes, including the purchasing process.
  • PS (Project System): Comprises project planning and execution processes, including project resource management and cost and revenue management.
  • LE (Logistic Execution): Facilitates advanced warehouse management, optimising the flow of goods through the plant and the management of warehouse locations.
  • FI and CO (Financial Accounting and Controlling): Financial management and control of the company.

Exceeding the highest standards of quality and efficiency

The objective of this project was to carry out a complete deployment of the management functionalities, initially in the headquarters located in Mungia and subsequently a rollout process was carried out in the following countries:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Mexico
  • China
  • USA
  • Rest of companies in Spain

This rollout process contemplated the entire process of deploying and extending SAP ECC functionalities to all locations, branches and business units within the aforementioned countries. This process was carried out gradually and the detailed planning of each of the implementations took on special relevance in order to ensure a smooth transition with minimal unplanned interruptions in operations.

For the execution of the project, a design process for the functionalities was particularly important, in which the specifications to be implemented were gathered, first at the headquarters and then in the rest of the locations, to facilitate the standardisation of the processes throughout the company, while respecting the legal requirements of each of the countries.

In addition, a data upload strategy was designed to facilitate the transfer of information between the old systems and the new system.

At all times we applied the best implementation practices and we based ourselves on the methodology currently known as ACTIVATE, which covers all the phases and activities of an implementation project.
