Map of creative industries in Barcelona

Spain

Barcelona Activa proposes the need to determine the scope, appearance, and potential of the creative economy of Barcelona and its metropolitan area in order to develop proposals that will favor its potential and help to turn it into the backbone of policies for the creation of talent, wealth and employment.

Through a process of active participation, Barcelona Activa together with IDOM are carrying out a thorough analysis and characterization of various cultural and creative sectors present in the city. Among the sectors evaluated are visual arts, performing arts, cultural heritage, film and video, TV and radio, music publishing, video games, literature, design, architecture, advertising, and communication. This process is not limited to an internal study. An analysis is being carried out to compare with benchmark regions, making it possible to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the local creative economy in relation to other similar geographic areas. The initiative also involves a detailed segmentation of the sectors involved, breaking down their key components to better understand their functioning and opportunities.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of this project is the strategic study being carried out. This analysis not only identifies the strategic challenges facing the various creative sectors, but also proposes tangible solutions and strategies to address them. These solutions are not only limited to the private sphere, but also translate into public policy proposals that seek to foster an environment conducive to the development and growth of the creative economy.

To carry out this ambitious project, Barcelona Activa has worked closely with IDOM experts. This collaboration has led to the creation of a geolocated database that provides a detailed overview of the economic and business ecosystem of the cultural and creative industries in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.

Ultimately, the initiative led by Barcelona Activa and reinforced by IDOM’s expertise aims not only to understand the scope and potential of the creative economy in the region, but also to catalyze significant change in the way economic growth and talent development policies are approached. This joint effort is expected to generate a positive impact on job creation, talent nurturing and wealth promotion in the Barcelona region and its metropolitan area.
