New CUMMINS industrial plant
Spain
ACCELERA by CUMMINS has inaugurated its cutting-edge industrial plant in the El Ruiseñor industrial park in Guadalajara, setting a new benchmark in the production of PEM electrolyzers to boost the clean hydrogen economy in Europe. Designed by IDOM, this state-of-the-art facility blends efficiency, sustainability, and striking architectural design.
With an annual production capacity of up to 500 MW, expandable to over 1 GW, the plant spans 55,000 m² and stands out for its white precast concrete structure and a glass façade with vertical sunshades that define its contemporary aesthetic.
The 200×100-meter building is strategically divided into two areas: administrative spaces to the north and production facilities to the south, allowing for future expansion across three additional bays. Its layout optimizes logistics, with separate access points for heavy and light vehicles, while the parking area integrates seamlessly with extensive green landscaping.
A Design Focused on Efficiency and Sustainability
The administrative area, spread across three floors, includes modern locker rooms, offices, a cafeteria accommodating 180 people, and a dedicated event terrace. In the production area, a vast 80×200-meter space with a 15-meter ceiling height houses four assembly bays, with an optimized roof design that maximizes natural light.
Designed by IDOM, the facility prioritizes sustainability by incorporating an innovative Thermally Activated Building System (TABS) with 120 geothermal wells and a 1.28 MWp photovoltaic installation, supported by 1,072 kWh batteries to minimize reliance on the grid.
With this groundbreaking infrastructure, ACCELERA by CUMMINS and IDOM reaffirm their commitment to the energy transition, driving clean hydrogen as a key solution for a more sustainable future in Europe.
