Pre-feasibility study for the creation of a Green Hydrogen Technology Innovation Hub in Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Costa Rica has published the National Hydrogen Strategy as part of the regional energy transition. The strategy includes an action plan for the development of a Technology Innovation Hub with knowledge related to technologies for the production, storage and use of green hydrogen as an alternative fuel.

In this line, IDOM has developed a pre-feasibility study with the aim of analyzing the feasibility and suitability of such a hub in Costa Rica.

The activities performed by IDOM during the project include:

  • Analysis of the country’s institutional and technological environment.
  • Identification of technological and non-technological needs and capabilities.
  • Definition of the Hub’s strategic objectives and goals.
  • Specification of the Hub’s portfolio of technological and non-technological services, and contrast with the sector’s agents.
  • Design of the Green Hydrogen Roadmap.
  • Determination of the Hub’s value proposition and definition of the technological and non-technological service delivery model.
  • Establishment of the Hub governance, specifying the members of the Steering Group.
  • Elaboration of the Hub’s economic model.

The work of IDOM has allowed the IDB to acquire a detailed vision of the green hydrogen industry in Costa Rica, as well as an understanding of the impact that the deployment of a Technology Innovation Hub would have on the actors of the sector. In addition, the necessary actions for its implementation have been identified.
