IDOM has developed an integrated analytical platform for Renfe, the Spanish state-owned passenger and freight rail transport operator. The platform combines different business systems with a geographic information system, giving it a unique perspective to analyze the different variables involved in the operation while providing real time monitoring of the services and incidents.
IDOM has used state-of-art technology and domain knowledge to develop a system that allows Renfe to display the real time location of trains, on-schedule performance of locomotors both on departure, transit and arrival. Incidents that might have occurred during the service are also displayed.
Localiza, a web based platform, has been developed by integrating different Renfe corporate systems.
Provides extensive information in readable form
Localiza provides common operational picture of the railway operation including stations, network, schedules resources (rolling stock, crews) together with incidents. The system also creates on-demand and easy to understand thematic maps for each of these features.
The real time train monitoring service allows to spatially locate all the locomotives currently in service. The system displays it with an arrow, showing the direction of the train; a color code indicates on-time performance. Selecting a train on the screen, one can access detailed information about the locomotives, capacity of the train, actual occupancy, and crew assigned to the service.
The system also shows graphs where one can see the number of trains that are in each pre-set delay window and punctuality by business district and products according to the commitments made in the service.
As well, the real time positioning information is used to drill down the status of rolling stock. The material can be viewed by its service assignment (circulating, assigned, available or cancelled) and its position (on the track, workshop or station). It is possible to apply filters selecting only the series of engine material or type of locomotive. For locomotive in the workshop, additional information related to service history can also be consulted.
Localiza provides analytics tools to take advantage of historical operation information for public performance (punctuality) and incidents.
Localiza allows statistical representation for on-time performance of arrival and departure from a station. The pie chart based thematic map shows, for each station, the proportion of the late train at that station at arrival and the same for trains leaving the station. Selecting a station, one can access historical information about the trains that have passed through this station.
