Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq urban highway in Riyadh
Saudi Arabia
In addition to the works on Line 3 of the Riyadh Metro, in recent years, IDOM has also been developing the 12 kilometre Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq urban highway Project for Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA). This road will undergo a radical transformation, upgrading from its current typology as an urban arterial road (80 km/h), to an urban highway (100 km/h), which will also feature structures on three levels at major inter-sections, a service road (50 km/h), and the local landscape and urban design will be improved.
An iconic project for a modern Riyadh
IDOM is taking an interdisciplinary approach to this project, including landscaping, transportation, architecture and engineering infrastructure studies. For example, one of the elements introduced was the “Dune” concept, unifying the entire urban development, as can been seen not only from the bridge over the intersection with Iman Saud Road, but also with the rest of the structures, pedestrian walkways, side medians and areas adapted to the different needs of pedestrians.
In addition, the work of IDOM also includes the integration of telecommunications and traffic control, the location of bus stops, and the planning of sidewalks and parking spaces.
Having developed the design, IDOM is now carrying out the Project Management of the construction works.
