Stainless steel – North American Stainless (NAS), Acerinox Group
Cold rolling and bright annealed lines
USA
North American Stainless (NAS) is a stainless steel production facility located in Kentucky (US), belonging to the Acerinox Group. Founded in 1990, during the decade until 2010, it became largest stainless steel producer in the United States.
With a nominal steel mill capacity of 1.4 million tons per year and more than 1,350 people working at the plant, Acerinox has decided to expand the facility with a new cold rolling mill (Cold Rolling Mill) and a new bright annealing line (Bright Annealing) for stainless steel. The steel obtained from cold rolled material with polished cylinders, once annealed (solubilized) in a furnace with a controlled inert atmosphere (AB), acquires a surface finish with high gloss and reflectivity. The possible uses for the output inlcude architectural elements and finishes applied in construction.
IDOM, which has been working with Acerinox for years, has developed the detailed engineering services for the expansion described.
