Tehuantepec Isthmus development program
Mexico
Contracting schemes, business plans and elaboration of the necessary cost-benefit analyses for the implementation of the Development Poles for Well-being.
Mexico is an important global business center, with North America as its main market. The Mexican government, through the “Program for the Development of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec,” seeks to improve the quality of life of more than 2.3 million inhabitants by promoting the development of the Isthmus region and taking advantage of its geostrategic location to strengthen supply chains from the major ports in Asia and to the East Coast of the U.S. and Europe.
In order to stimulate the development of the Isthmus de Tehuantepec, the Mexican government is committed to the creation of a multimodal logistics platform of global scope that will complement the demand of international markets and reduce intermodal costs: interoceanic port-railway-port, and an industrial platform that takes advantage of the logistics services of the ports of Coatzacoalcos Veracruz, Salina Cruz Oaxaca and their interconnection by rail.
The Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) has commissioned IDOM to develop the business plan for the implementation of the first five development poles or industrial parks. To this end, the master plans, tax incentives, technical, legal, environmental, social and financial feasibility, as well as the basic services of water, energy, gas, digital connectivity, productive infrastructure, last mile transport and human resources specialized in the productive vocations with the greatest potential in the region have been analyzed and designed.
The study carried out by the IDOM Consulting team aims to create free zones along the route between the two oceans in order to attract investment and the creation of new infrastructure to meet the basic needs of companies and the working population. These actions will promote a favorable business environment, the creation of jobs and productive opportunities for the population living in one of the most backward regions, but also one with ample opportunities for development.
