Vulnerability study of the Unelco-Endesa electricity network in Tenerife, the Canary Islands
Spain
Endesa has contracted IDOM to analyze the vulnerability of Tenerife’s electricity system, including power generation plants and transmission lines, to extreme weather conditions.
This is an isolated system with a peak demand of 550 MW, with 220 kV and 66 kV transmission systems, the Candelaria generation plant, the Granadilla combined cycle plant and several wind farms.
The scope of the work carried out by IDOM has included:
- Study of network configuration
- Identification of critical elements depending on the level of exposure to extreme weather conditions
- In-situ data collection
- Definition of network reinforcements
- Proposal of new regulation codes and standards for new facilities
