Nuclear fusion aims at fulfilling the promise of a safe, affordable and almost inexhaustible source of energy, but it also presents challenging scientific and engineering issues.

Since 2007, IDOM has participated in more than 150 projects related to nuclear fusion for different clients, countries and facilities. These include JET, STEP and ITER, the world’s largest fusion experiment, where thirty-five nations are collaborating to build and operate a tokamak of an unprecedented scale.

IDOM is also participating on the UKAEA’s Engineering Design Services Framework for the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) Programme. The range of activities and systems in which IDOM has been involved has been very broad, covering from blanket and fuel cycle to vacuum and leak detection systems, nuclear safety, diagnostics integration, cryogenics, construction management, hot cells and instrumentation, among others. IDOM supported its fusion clients on advanced mechanical, structural, civil, neutronics, computational fluid dynamics and thermal hydraulics analyses have been also provided, working embedded in the client’s team or providing specialized services from its own premises.

The future of nuclear fusion is bright. Our extensive experience, our commitment to safety and our will to secure a sustainable future through nuclear fusion are a guarantee of success for our customers.
